Press Release on the visit to the United States of Mr. Horia Georgescu, President of the National Integrity Agency

A National Integrity Agency delegation headed by its President, Mr. Horia Georgescu, undertook an official visit to Washington, from November 17 to 21, with the purpose of meeting with counterparts from institutions involved in preventing and combating corruption and those responsible for ensure public integrity climate in the United States, and other senior representatives of the U.S. administration.
On this occasion, Mr. Horia Georgescu was welcomed to the White House by the Director for Central and Eastern Europe Affairs within the National Security Staff, Executive Office of the President (former National Security Council of the United States).
The President of the National Integrity Agency has been also welcomed to the United States Department of State by the Office of South Central European Affairs Director, ad-interim deputy of the assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.
With the occasion of these meetings have been addressed a number of general and specific issues related to the progress and results of the National Integrity Agency, rule of law, judicial reform, and the challenges facing the Agency and its objectives. Special emphasis in the discussion was on the legislative stability and maintaining the institutional framework.
During the visit, President of the National Integrity Agency also met with representatives of the Financial Division from the U.S. Secret Service, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the U.S. Department of Justice - Public Integrity Section and the Office of Information Policy as well as with the president of the Center for European Policy Analysis, a think-thank based in Washington whose mission is to study policies adopted by the countries of central and eastern Europe.
During the visit to Washington, President of the Agency had a working meeting with the Director of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, one of the counterparts to the National Integrity Agency. The officials hope to continue cooperation between the two institutions, to exchange best practices in providing the best standards of integrity.
The purpose of these meetings was to exchange experiences with representatives of the institutions mentioned above, on various themes such as the effective methods of preventing and fighting conflicts of interest or unjustified wealth, financial investigations and data analysis, tools to prevent and combat corruption, international cooperation and training.
Visit to the United States was organised with the assistance of the Romanian Embassy in Washington.
